The Ministry Vision

Why a Senior Ministry

Though there are many who do not like to be called a senior, still all do seek retirement from the five day a week nine-to-five ritual. We even extend that sought after retirement to life itself. We think, "Oh, what a joy to be able to do whatever I want, even nothing all day, any day whenever I chose." But, is that what God wishes? What does God's Word, scripture, say with respect to retirement? To retire from life, no where does the Bible say anything on this subject. In fact, if we look at who God called to do His work, we would find Him calling a number of significant seniors. Abraham, (Abram), for example, was called to be the father of all nations at the ripe young age of 99, (Genesis 17:1-7), and Sarah, (Sarai), became the mother of nations at the age of 91, giving birth to Isaac, (Genesis 17:15-17). Moses was called to free the Israelites from Egyptian bondage at the age of 80, (Exodus 7:7), and Paul went on his first missionary trip to Galatia near the age of 50. And there are many more!

Does God have a special call for us as seniors? Yes, and it's a call to all of us. God's command to use us as seniors, or as we are called in scriptures, older men and older women, appears in Titus 2:1-8. You are challenged to read it.

Why the Name of ABRAM for the Ministry

God made a covenant with Abram at the age of 99. That covenant was for Abram to be "the father of a multitude of nations," (Genesis 17:4), of which we are a part. Abram, who then took on the name of Abraham, a senior, was given an exceptional relationship with God, a covenant relationship, that ties us to the gospel, (Romans 4:16, Galatians 3:29).

In addition, the letters in the name Abram fit well in pointing to our salvation. The letter A standing for Adopted by God, (John 1:12); the letter B standing for Blessed by God, (Psalm 144:15); the letter R standing for Regenerated by God, (John 1:13); the letter A standing for Accountable to God, (Rom 14:1); and the letter M standing for Matured in our faith in God, (Titus 2:1-8).
