Cross Current Sermons

Cross Current is the parent-driven youth ministry of Grace Community church which exists to:

Our Mission...
EXALT CHRIST in all that we say and do. We desire to partner with parents in helping teens see that all of life is to be lived for the glory and praise of Jesus Christ.

EQUIP PARENTS to effectively train and disciple their teens in the gospel and prepare their teens for life as God-honoring adults who have a supreme love for Jesus Christ, a devotion to scripture, a passion for the local church, and an evangelic heart to reach out to the lost.

ESTABLISH CONTEXTS where youth can encounter the living God and experience the transforming power of the gospel through a variety of meetings, outreaches, conferences and service opportunities all within the context of the local church.

1. Our Mindset...

We affirm that the parent-youth ministry exists to glorify God. The intent of all programs is to see the gospel applied in the lives of teenagers and to cultivate spiritual fruit evidenced in teens who worship God, live in obedience to His Word, and passionately proclaim the gospel.
• We affirm that parents have primary responsibility for the biblical training and discipling of their children through the teen years.
Parents play an irreplaceable role in the forming of Christian
character in the lives of their teens.
• We affirm that pastoral care is an important means of grace to equip parents in effectively discipling and preparing their teen for life as a mature, God-honoring adult. The responsibility of the church is to support and supplement parents as they seek to direct their
children, while also providing an essential teaching voice that offers biblical clarity on family issues.
• We affirm the fundamental purpose of peer relationships is the cultivation and enjoyment of biblical fellowship. This fellowship never replaces parents, however, but supports and affirms their primary role in influencing their children.

• We affirm that wisdom, integrity, and purity should characterize all peer relationships, especially those involving the opposite sex. We also believe that God has ordained romance for those prepared for, and in pursuit of, marriage.

• We affirm that the teenage years are filled with unique
opportunities for parents and the church to inspire and equip the next generation for its role in God's plan. The teenage years need not be characterized by rebellion or unsupervised independence that is common in our culture. With God's help and grace, the next generation can be raised for His glory!

2. Our Methods...

Cross Current Monthly Meetings...
The second Saturday night of every month is set aside for our Cross Current Corporate Meeting which is for all middle school and high school students and their parents. This exciting evening consists of a time of worship, relevant teaching, ministry, application, and then concludes with a time of recreation , or a special activity, and always lots of food. Students are encouraged to pray, serve, participate and invite friends to these monthly Cross Current Corporate Meetings.

Cross Current Youth Care Groups
Cross Current Youth Care Groups are for all high school students. They meet in homes on the first and third Thursday evening of each month. These small groups exist to provide high school students along with their parents an opportunity to discuss and apply God's Word to their lives and develop rich and meaningful relationships with one another. (We ask that all Fathers attend youth care group on the 1st Thursday of the month and Mothers attend on the 3rd Thursday of the month).

Service & Outreach Ministry Opportunities
We want the youth to see themselves not as part of the "youth group" but as a vital part of the local church. God has given His church a mission and through a variety of ways and ministries we seek to connect the youth of this church to that mission. Such opportunities include everything from serving in children's ministry, to the tech & sound team, to participating in evangelistic service projects.

Youth Advance Conference
Youth Advance is our yearly 3 day youth-parent conference that always proves to be a highlight in the lives of both teens and parents.
Parenting seminars & pastoral care and counseling for parents and teens On going parenting classes and pastoral care and counseling are offered throughout the year as another way to serve and equip both our youth and parents.
